Chef Mark Poynton reveals more new restaurant details

Former chef-patron of Allimentum in Cambridge, Mark Poynton, has revealed more details about his new restaurant.

The still-to-be named restaurant, due to open in Cambridge city centre next spring, will accommodate 35-40 covers and open four-and-a-half days a week, Wednesday through to Sunday lunch.

In move away from the formal dining scene, Poyton told The Caterer: "I want to move away from the stuff I've done for years and bring some fun back. The restaurant will serve simple, delicious food with no tasting menus.

"I want it to be really approachable food and service, with most wines by the glass, beer on tap and a space for counter seating with an open kitchen."

In preparation for the opening, Poynton has been running a number of exclusive events from wine tastings to menu previews for guests to get a chance to get a behind-the-scenes glimpse. Tickets are available at mjprestaurant.com/.

Poynton announced he was leaving Alimentum in June after nine years. In 2012 he gained a Michelin star which he held for five years.

He previously held the role of head chef at Daniel Clifford's two-Michelin-starred Midsummer House in Cambridge.
