Chef confronts terrorist during London Bridge attack

A chef hit one of the London Bridge terrorists over the head with a crate, before opening the doors of his bakery in Borough Market to 20 people, it has emerged.

Romanian baker Florin Morariu offered shelter at his bakery, Bread Ahead, to 20 members of the public until the attackers had been killed by police.

He was also seen in a video helping the police to lead victims to safety.

Morariu told the Associated Press: "We were looking out of the window because we saw that everyone was agitated, everyone was running, people, women… they were fainting, falling and we went outside to see what was happening."

When Morariu went outside, he "froze" but then went over to one of the attackers and hit him over the head with a crate.

He then saw that "people were desperate", so let them in to the bakery and closed the shutters.

"There was a car with a loudspeaker saying ‘go, go' and they (police) threw a grenade…. and then I ran." He added.

Morariu has been hailed a hero on Twitter with Dan Stoenescu, Romania's ambassador to Tunisia, tweeting: "Florin Morariu was a true hero during London terrorist attack! Proud of our Romanians abroad."

The terror attack on Saturday (3 June) night saw a white hire van hit pedestrians on London Bridge, before three men got out and stabbed people in nearby Borough Market.

Eight people were killed and another 48 injured.

The three terrorists were later shot dead by police.
