Chef Aktar Islam plans boutique Birmingham hotel as part of Summer Row development

Aktar Islam has lodged plans to transform a former Birmingham night club into a 52-bedroom hotel, the chef has confirmed.

Working with developers, the site is planned to open in 33-61 Summer Row by the end of 2019, subject to planning permission. The independent boutique hotel is expected to create around 75 jobs, while also utilising local craftspeople for furnishings.

The area is currently home to Islam's Opheem Indian restaurant and Legna Italian, which opened last year. Another restaurant is expected to follow on Summer Row, while the chef is also planning further developments across the city.

He told The Caterer

"We do things properly and whatever I do, and whatever I continue to do, I'll follow that same vein. So the hotel once again will be an independent hotel with a really high-end boutique feel. We'll be using local craftsmen to do the joinery and to make all the beds. Supporting the local community, supporting the local trades as well is very much part of what I'm about."
