Winterhalter’s long-running event lauds KPs while raising money for Hospitality Action.
National Kitchen Porter (KP) Day returns on 22 June to celebrate the tireless work of KPs.
Organised by warewasher specialist Winterhalter, KP Day seeks to put the spotlight on the often-overlooked contribution of KPs who keep kitchens working at peak efficiency, as well as raising money for industry charity, Hospitality Action.
Now entering its 11th year, KP Day is a chance for kitchens from all sectors of foodservice and hospitality across the UK to tell the country how much they value their KPs. Past years have seen contributions from a diverse range of locations including five-star hotels, clubs, army barracks and many more.
Stephen Kinkead, managing director of Winterhalter UK, said: “It’s always very inspiring the way the industry responds to KP Day. In so many kitchens KPs are the secret weapon, going above and beyond to support their colleagues, and it’s great to know that so many businesses appreciate how important they are.”
To join in, simply share a picture of your kitchen porter on Instagram or X, formerly Twitter, with @winterhalterUK and adding the hashtag #KPday. Winterhalter will donate £2.50 to Hospitality Action for every photograph received, up to a maximum of £500.
Each photo received will also be uploaded to the KP gallery at the KP of the Year website, the competition organised by The Caterer and Winterhalter to recognise KPs’ hard graft throughout the UK.
Entries are currently open for the contest’s 10th edition, which you can enter here.
Nominations for the 2024 award will close on Friday 30 August, after which, 10 KPs will be selected to make a shortlist for the award, before the successful KP is chosen by an expert judging panel.
The winner will receive a prize package that includes the coveted KP of the Year trophy, a piece of Winterhalter kit worth up to £10,000 for the winning KP’s employer, £1,000 in vouchers and a celebratory meal with friends and family in a casual-dining restaurant of the KP’s choice.
Every KP put forward will receive a KP of the Year bespoke Oliver Hardy apron from Winterhalter UK and three highly commended KPs will also receive vouchers to spend on hospitality experiences.
