Castle Terrace alumni to open the Little Chartroom in Edinburgh

Castle Terrace alumni Roberta Hall and Shaun McCarron are opening their first restaurant this summer in Edinburgh.

Set to launch mid-June, the Little Chartroom will be a neighbourhood-style bistro run by the couple, with chef Hall in the kitchen (pictured, right) and McCarron (left) managing front of house.

Hall spent three years working at Tom Kitchin's Michelin-starred the Kitchin before assisting Dominic Jack in the opening of Castle Terrace, where she worked for six years and went on to become head chef.

While there she met McCarron, who joined as a commis waiter, working up into the role of restaurant manager. They ran the Abbot's Elm in Cambridgeshire together for a year before moving back home to Edinburgh last year.

Serving French and British cuisine, the food at the 18-cover bistro will be simple and seasonal, served lunch and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday and brunch at the weekend.

Named the Little Chartroom after Hall's love of sailing, Studio Niro is behind the design and commissioned pieces by Hall's mother who creates bespoke artworks from old shipping charts.

The dining room will be stripped back but comfortable, featuring brass hardware and rich marine blues. An open kitchen is being designed to reduce the division between the kitchen and dining room and the chefs will assist in front of house service.
