The Carlton Tower Jumeirah to open 1 June following £100m refurbishment

Luxury hospitality group Jumeirah has confirmed it is finally due to reopen its European flagship hotel the Carlton Tower on 1 June following a £100m refurbishment.

Following an 18-month closure, the hotel in London's Knightsbridge has undergone the most extensive transformation in its history, creating a new foyer and reception, redesigning all bedrooms and suites (the count of which has been reduced from 216 to 186 to offer larger accommodation), a new health club and spa, a restaurant, lobby bar and lounge, ballroom and meeting rooms.

Almost 50% of the keys at the Carlton Tower Jumeirah are now suites, including the newly created Royal Suite, a residence with three bedrooms and the option to privatise the entire floor.

The hotel’s Italian restaurant Al Mare will have a theatre kitchen, private dining room and al fresco dining, all overseen by the hotel executive chef and Al Mare’s head chef Marco Calenzo, who joined the hotel from Zuma where he was executive chef.

The property originally opened in 1961 as London’s first tower hotel and was the tallest in London at the time. It was designed by Henry End, who was also responsible for the interiors of the Plaza hotel in New York. The refurbishment has been overseen by interior and architecture design studio 1508 London.

Aaron Kaupp, regional vice-president of London properties, Jumeirah Frankfurt, and general manager of the Carlton Tower Jumeirah, said: “We are thrilled to welcome back our valued guests following a significant investment. This landmark opening is set against the backdrop of a pandemic, which has seen the world and our beloved industry face extreme difficulty. The Carlton Tower Jumeirah will be a beacon of hope during a very difficult time for us all. We will once more be the place to be seen, a cornerstone for the local London community, as well as a leader of luxury hospitality in the world.”

Room rates will start from £540.

Jumeirah Group, a member of Dubai Holding, operates a global portfolio of 23 properties across the Middle East, Europe and Asia, also including the Lowndes hotel and Grosvenor House Suites in London.
