Calcot Collection announces £7m investment

The Calcot Collection has announced it is investing £7m, the majority at its flagship Calcot & Spa in Tetbury, Gloucestershire to expand its wellness options, extend its food and beverage offerings, and increase room capacity.

The bulk of the £7m investment is going towards transforming a former grain store into a fitness and wellness site. This new space, to be called The Grain Store, will house a gym, fitness studio, café, and workspace. The studio will host exercise classes from spin, Pilates, to yoga.

This will allow the spa to absorb its long-standing waiting list and grow its membership, targeting a younger audience.

The spa is expanding its treatment rooms which, according to Richard Ball, Calcot’s executive chairman, is “due to customer demand from hotel residents for treatments and to meet the increasing requests for spa days”.

The Grain Store is set to open in January 2024, with the spa enhancements in spring 2024.

Alongside the wellness investment, Calcot has refurbished its brasserie. The interiors and menu have had a re-fresh, with Calcot’s executive chef Richard Davies and his team using foraged ingredients from Calcot’s land and honey from its apiary. The hotel is also introducing a new F&B offering, to be called The Hive. This multi-faceted space will serve coffees and light snacks during the day and turn into a cocktail bar at night.

Calcot also has planning consent to build four treehouses in its grounds and plans to begin construction on them late next year.

Calcot Collection is also expanding its sister Gloucestershire hotel, The Painswick in Stroud, by adding a cottage to its offering. Placed next door to the hotel, the addition adds extra three bedrooms and is set to open in spring/summer 2024.

Lord Crewe Arms in Consett, Northumberland, added an additional five suites to its offering last year in a neighbouring building.

Speaking exclusively to The Caterer, Ball said: “It’s exciting to be coming out of the Covid years with a plan to expand all three hotels in the collection and adapt to shifting demands in the sector. The additions at Calcot, in particular, allows us to focus on various other business where we have strong demand.”
