Cairn Group launches soft brand of historic hotels in iconic locations

Newcastle-based Cairn Group has re-branded the leading properties within its 31-strong hotel portfolio through the newly launched Cairn Collection.

The 10 hotels that feature in the new soft brand have been selected for the historical buildings in which they are located, their iconic locations and their superior service.

They include the five hotels acquired in November 2016 from the former Hotel Collection, owned by Lone Star Funds, off a guide price of £75m: Redworth Hall hotel, Durham; Old Ship hotel, Brighton; the Angel hotel, Cardiff; the Majestic hotel, Harrogate (pictured); and the Stirling Highland hotel, Stirling.

The other five hotels are the Royal Station hotel, Newcastle; Stoke Place hotel, near Slough, Buckinghamshire; St Georges hotel, London; Cairn hotel, Newcastle; and Cairn hotel, Edinburgh.

Naveen Handa, director, Cairn Group, said the hotels within the Cairn Collection "blend authentic British character with modern comforts and exciting city centre locations".

He added: "For our customers, the collection provides a brand which will give them an assured quality offer across the portfolio, with a strong focus on destination dining, customer service, historical properties and local knowledge. The collection also meets a need for soft hotel brands which give the opportunity for owners and operators to affiliate with a major chain whilst allowing individual hotels to retain their unique style."

Founded in 1963 by Roshan Lal Handa, Cairn Group is today run by his sons Arvan and Aran. In May 2016 it completed a £101m refinance deal with HSBC to fund its expansion.
