Café Laperouse at the OWO hotel in London’s Whitehall has closed after less than two years of trading.
All references to Café Laperouse London has been removed from its website, while a short statement on the OWO’s restaurant page confirmed a “remarkable new dining destination is on its way to the Grand Courtyard”.
The Evening Standard reported on the closure last week with a statement from owners Moma Group, but spokespeople for the restaurant have since declined to comment.
Moma Group also closed Mimosa at the Langham, London hotel suddenly after less than six months of trading in August last year.
The inaugural Café Lapérouse opened at the Hotel de la Marine in Paris in 2021 on the historic Place de la Concorde.
According to its website, its outposts in Port de Saint-Tropez, France, and Jeddah Walk, Saudi Arabia, remain open.
The London restaurant was situated in an indoor pavilion in the central courtyard at the OWO next to the Raffles London at the OWO, and offered space for 80 diners.
In December 2023, it was awarded one out of five for food hygiene practises after inspectors found “major improvement” was necessary. This was soon rectified following a second visit from the inspectors.
In February 2024, Mark Hastings stepped down as director of food and beverage at Raffles London at the OWO after 18 months in the role.
