London's Café de Paris bought by Ibiza club giant Pacha

One of London’s oldest nightclubs is to reopen after being taken over by Ibiza club operator Pacha Group.

Café de Paris launched in the West End in the 1920s and hosted performers including Judy Garland and Frank Sinatra.

Its former owner Maxwell’s Restaurants went into liquidation in December after struggling with the impact of the pandemic, leaving doubts about the club’s future.

Now Pacha plans to reopen the site under its cabaret restaurant concept Lío, which ran a London pop-up in 2019 and has a flagship venue in Ibiza.

“Café de Paris has been an icon of the West End since the 1920s, so it is a great privilege to be taking it on into the next phase of life,” said Nick McCabe, chief executive of Pacha.

“We are delighted that, true to its roots, it will remain somewhere that people can come and experience entertainment hospitality at its finest and we can’t wait to welcome people back.”

Pacha ran an eponymous nightclub in London’s Victoria for 13 years before it closed in 2014. The site has since reopened as Market Halls Victoria.

Pacha runs several clubs in Ibiza and earlier this year announced a trio of new openings, including two on the Greek island of Mykonos.
