Burnt Chef Project launches free mental health training app for hospitality staff

Hospitality mental health initiative the Burnt Chef Project has launched the Burnt Chef Academy, a free mental health training app for the sector, in partnership with CPL Learning.

The resource has been designed to provide both individuals and management teams in the industry across the world with resources on mental health and wellbeing. New modules will continue to be developed and added based on the needs of the industry.

The Burnt Chef Academy is available online via Google Play or Apple’s App Store, and contains free learning modules on the following areas:

  • Mental health support champion
  • Personal resilience
  • Self awareness
  • Effective communication
  • Managers' mental health awareness.

The Burnt Chef Academy will also include free access to a growing database of resources and services, such as TED talks, posters and help sheets, and access to the Burnt Chef support service.

In addition, 13 extra modules will be available to any business looking to sponsor the ongoing work of the Burnt Chef Project, with areas including drug awareness, conflict management and unconscious bias.

Founder of the Burnt Chef Project Kris Hall said: “It comes as no surprise that the subject of mental health is the focus of many a conversation, but for many this is still a relatively new topic and can leave both business owners and individuals feeling overwhelmed as they begin to understand the complexities of the subject and the impact it can have to an our already fragile industry.

“The Burnt Chef Academy compliments the services we currently offer, such as the Burnt Chef support service, launched in February, and is just one solution in a long line of products and services that we have introduced to support the wellbeing of our staff. It is important that information is freely available to as many individuals as possible so that we can begin to fight years of stigma and challenge the perceptions associated with mental illness.

“The Burnt Chef Academy will be continually updated based on feedback from the trade. We have already begun working on additional modules focusing on subject matters such as sleep, nutrition and manager skill sets, all of which are instrumental to a healthy and strong industry.”
