Bundobust to open Birmingham restaurant

Indian street food and craft beer specialist Bundobust is set to expand its northern restaurant chain by opening a fifth site, in Birmingham, this autumn.

The restaurant will open in the city centre on Bennetts Hill and will serve Indian street food, craft beer and cocktails, inspired by the western Indian province of Gujarat.

Diners can expect dishes such as okra fries (dusted in black salt and mango powder); Gobi Manchurian (Indo-Chinese vegetable pakoras tossed in umami-hot sauce); and vada pav (a fried mashed potato ball served in a brioche bun).

Beers and cocktails will include Bundobust's own range from its Manchester brewery alongside local craft beers from Birmingham breweries, including Attic Brew Co. Cocktails, such as a coconut and mango mojito, will be created with an Indian twist.

Ahead of the opening, Bundobust has lined up a series of collaborations and pop-ups with Birmingham restaurants and bars including the Wilderness and Attic Brew Co.

Bundobust co-founder Mayur Patel said: “Bundobust was born out of a shared passion for Indian street food and boundary-pushing beer. A decade on, we’re excited to be building a new home in Birmingham, a city with a rich Indian heritage, as well as a world-class indie brewing scene; we couldn’t be in better company in our new neighbourhood.”

Co-founder Marko Husack added: “We're really excited to be opening in Birmingham, a city with a rich history of South Asian culture and food. With everything from fantastic old school boozers to modern craft beer bars and world-class breweries, we feel like the city is a perfect fit for us. We think with Bundobust's approach to Indian street food and brewery fresh beer we can add something unique to complement Birmingham's already fantastic food and drink scene."

After opening their first restaurant in Leeds in 2014, Patel and Husack launched two Bundobust restaurants in Manchester and one in Liverpool, which opened in 2019.
