A Britannia hotel in Liverpool has applied for permission to host boxing and wrestling matches.

The hotel company has requested to host matches at the Britannia Adelphi, in Ranelagh Street.

If approved, matches could be held between midday and 2am from Monday to Saturday and from noon to midnight on Sunday.

The hotel’s existing license already allows it to host indoor sporting events, but further permission is required for the two sports.

Britannia Hotels was voted the UK’s worst hotel chain by Which? for the 11th year in a row last year.

Despite this it reported an 18% boost in pre-tax profits to £39.4m for the year ended 31 March 2023.

Britannia operates 64 UK hotels and acquired the Midland hotel in Bradford from Peel Hotels in April last year.

It also bought holiday park company Pontins out of administration in 2011.
