Bovingdons Catering has taken over the café at Dulwich Picture Gallery in London and will also provide catering services for some of the gallery’s evening events.
The space will relaunch under Bovingdons’ Flotsam & Jetsam café brand, an Antipodean-style venue serving coffee and all-day brunch that opened its first site on Wandsworth Common in 2015.
The new venue will open on 15 September to coincide with the opening of Helen Frankenthaler: Radical Beauty, the first major UK exhibition of the Abstract Expressionist’s woodcuts. It is the first of a planned expansion for the café brand over the coming months.
The five-year, £5m contract is Bovingdons’ first with an art gallery and the first expansion site for Flotsam & Jetsam. The caterer recently added the Museum of London Docklands and Butchers' Hall to its venue portfolio, which also includes Fulham Palace, Strawberry Hill House, Westminster Abbey and the Foundling Museum.
Jennifer Scott, the Sackler director of Dulwich Picture Gallery, said: “We are delighted to be working with Bovingdons, and we are looking forward to establishing the Flotsam & Jetsam café as a leading brunch, lunch and tea destination in South-East London. Flotsam & Jetsam will quite literally be the icing on the cake of every visit to the world’s first public art gallery.”
Frans Kobus, managing director of Bovingdons, said: "We’re thrilled to be working with the team at Dulwich Picture Gallery and to be opening our next Flotsam & Jetsam in their beautiful space. The original Flotsam & Jetsam is close by in Wandsworth Common and we’re excited to show the locals of Dulwich Village and visitors to the gallery what we offer.”
The space was previously operated by CH&CO.
