Bourgee suddenly shuts Southend site

Steak and lobster restaurant Bourgee has closed its Southend site without explanation.

The restaurant, located on Southend's seafront, has been closed since yesterday with a note on the door that said it will remain closed until further notice, reported Essex Live.

A statement on the company's Facebook page apologised to customers for the inconvenience but offered no reason for the sudden closure and no indication of when it might again open its doors.

Meanwhile an automatic reply to email enquiries suggested that the restaurant will reopen under new leadership.

The email read: "Thank you for your email, Bourgee Southend is currently closed but will reopen shortly under new management. If you have an enquiry please contact enquiries@onerestaurantandlounge.co.uk"

The Bourgee restaurant chain was founded by entrepreneur James Welling and chef Mark Baumann.

It also operates sites in Bury St Edmunds, London Southend Airport and Chelmsford, which remain open. The company's website promises new openings in Norwich and Colchester in 2018.

Representatives of Bourgee were contacted by The Caterer but declined to comment.
