Bomb hoax sees Grand hotel in Scarborough evacuated

The Grand hotel in Scarborough was evacuated yesterday after receiving a bomb hoax telephone call at 10.15am.

Emergency services attended and evacuated the hotel and surrounding buildings as a precautionary measure. The area surrounding the hotel, including St Nicholas Cliff and the Spa Bridge, was cordoned off to allow emergency service to attend.

Specialist teams conducted thorough checks of the building and surrounding area and found no evidence of any threat to public safety. Access to the 413-bedroom hotel has now been authorised, staff and guests have been allowed to return and the cordon has been removed.

In an update, North Yorkshire Police said: “The safety of everyone in the area and the emergency services who attended is our priority and we thank the staff, guests of the hotel and members of the public for their patience while we worked to establish the circumstances around the incident.”

The Grand hotel was opened in 1867 and is owned by Britannia Hotels.
