The contract caterer will hold trials at two of its client sites in London and Crewe.
BM Caterers has unveiled plans to implement AI self-checkout systems in over 15 client sites by early 2025 should its trial scheme prove to be successful.
The contract caterer will trial run the new technology at two of its client sites, a London-based law firm and the headquarters of a logistics specialist in Crewe, to determine the scope of the roll-out over the coming months.
The Deligo AI self-checkout automatically recognises items without the need to scan a barcode, meaning that customers can place all their items on a tray at the same time.
The system’s dual camera technology also enables easy differentiation between cooked and packaged products.
Antony Prentice, managing director at BM, said: “I have seen a couple of demos of the Deligo smart tills now and have to say I was massively impressed with how the tech has evolved since the very early days of AI tills.
“This trial gives us a fantastic opportunity to now see how the tills work in practice in busy environments and also how they are received by both our customers and team members alike.”
BM, formerly Bartlett Mitchell, was founded by Ian Mitchell and executive chairman Wendy Bartlett in 2000.
The workplace catering company has been owned by Westbury Street Holdings (WSH) since 2020 and in 2022 rebranded as BM.
