Plant-based protein company Beyond Meat has announced the launch of its latest product for the foodservice sector, Beyond Steak.
The launch was unveiled at this year’s Casual Dining Show on 27-28 September.
Beyond Steak is made with plant-based ingredients including fava bean and wheat and aims to deliver the same taste and texture of seared steak pieces. The product will be available to UK restaurants next month.
Speaking to The Caterer at the Casual Dining Show, Steve Parsons, UK & Ireland foodservice manager at Beyond Meat, said the product could be used in restaurants that want to add an alternative protein to dishes such as beef tacos or a beef stir-fry.
It is also suitable for the food-to-go sector, which could add it sandwiches or ready-to-eat salads or food bowls, he added.
Parsons said: “We’re delighted to be introducing the delicious Beyond Steak to a UK audience, which delivers the taste and texture of sliced steak in a way that is kinder to the planet."
The launch of Beyond Meat's latest product builds on the recent roll-out of its Beyond Stack Burger and Beyond Burger Chicken-Style.
The Beyond Stack Burger features in children's menus in 250 sites in Greene King’s Hungry Horse franchise and was also introduced into 849 JD Wetherspoons sites last month. The vegan brand’s Beyond Burger Chicken-Style was launched this summer in Brakes, with listings to be announced.
Parsons added: "In addition to Beyond Steak, we’re also further rolling out Beyond Stack Burger and Beyond Burger Chicken-Style, giving more choice to restaurants and allowing everyone to eat what they love, no sacrifice required."
