Bernard Murphy leaves Gleneagles "for a new challenge"

Gleneagles managing director Bernard Murphy has left the hotel after three years "for a new challenge".

Murphy succeeded Patrick Elsmie after having served as general manager of the five-red-AA-star, 232-bedroom resort in Auchterarder, Perthshire for seven years. It is not known if a replacement has yet been appointed.

He departed the hotel at the end of last month, having overseen the sale of the business from Diageo to Ennismore in 2015 and its multimillion-pound refurbishment since.

Murphy said: "With the majority of the physical work on site now complete, a strong leadership team in place and brand values communicated across the business, the team are ready to take the business to its next stage.

"I am proud of the team that has worked with me to achieve this and would like to thank each and every one of them for making this time such a rewarding and enjoyable part of my career and wish them every success in the future both collectively and individually."

Conor O'Leary was promoted from hotel manager to general manager in August 2017 following the departure of Paul Heery, who left the hotel in in July after three years for Adare Manor in Limerick, Ireland, having taken on Murphy's general manager role following his promotion.
