Be Inclusive Hospitality launches third annual D&I survey

Be Inclusive Hospitality has launched its third annual Inside Hospitality Survey for 2023, aiming to assess the state of equity, diversity and inclusion within the hospitality sector.

Alongside launching the survey this week, the non-profit is hosting a webinar today (31 January) at 1pm called ‘Insights Inform Action’, inviting organisations and employees to learn more about the importance of this work, key findings to date, plans for this year and a Q&A.

The first survey was launched in November 2020, surveying employees and entrepreneurs from all backgrounds and career levels. Topics explored included careers in hospitality, bias, discrimination, inclusion, learning and development.

This year’s survey is to be delivered in partnership with Ulster University and the University of West London.

Professor Ioannis S Pantelidis of Ulster University said: “It is an honour and a privilege to be partnering with Be Inclusive Hospitality and Professor Alexandros Paraskevas of University of West London on this project. Hospitality in the UK still has a long way to go when it comes to equality, diversity and inclusion. We hope that the report brings positive change into the future of hospitality organisations and individuals alike.”

Lorraine Copes, Be Inclusive Hospitality founder, added: “I have definitely seen some small steps forward since the first survey release back in 2020, but as an industry, we need to move towards taking strides, finally confronting the visible disparities that ethnic minorities face within the hospitality sector.

“The success of this survey is very much reliant on the entire industry getting behind it, as we are keen to surpass the 2022 numbers of 1,000 responses to paint a comprehensive and representative picture of the sector.”

The results of the survey are expected to be published in June, summarised in the annual Inside Hospitality Report, a free of charge resource available to download digitally. The launch will be marked by an in-person event, which will see key findings presented, along with practical steps that hospitality businesses can take to move the dial forward towards race equity.
