Anton Piotrowski's Röski to open despite missing crowdfunding target

Chef Anton Piotrowski's restaurant Röski will still open this year despite missing its £60,000 crowdfunding target.

Piotrowski, formerly executive head chef at the Michelin-starred Treby Arms near Plympton in Devon and 2012 MasterChef: The Professionals winner, announced he had secured a site for his first solo restaurant in Liverpool earlier this year.

He launched a crowdfunding campaign in August to raise money for a private dining chef's table in the restaurant basement and to fit-out the kitchen, but fell short of the £60,000 goal. Altogether 217 backers pledged £23,030, but as the target was not met the backers will not be charged.

Piotrowski posted on Twitter that HSBC stepped in to fund the refurbishment: "Thank you to everyone that pledged on our kickstarter! Don't worry, Röski is still happening!#ThankGodForTheBanks @HSBC"

The 35-cover restaurant, serving modern British food "with a trail of an immigrant's cuisine", is set to open next month.
