Another Place, The Lake opens following £3.5m expansion

Another Place, The Lake, created by the team behind the Watergate Bay hotel in Newquay, Cornwall, has opened the first in a new collection of activity-led destination properties.

Set on the shores of Ullswater, within 18 acres of the Lake District National Park in Cumbria, the Another Place concept is focused on outdoor pursuits, as well as relaxing, eating and drinking well with friends and family.

The 40-bedroom, Cumbria hotel is expected to be the first of six hotels over the next 10 years, with expansion being mooted for northern Europe and the United States. Another Place, led by managing director Will Ashworth, will be run separately from Watergate Bay, founded by Ashworth's parents, John and Mary.

The new hotel sits within the original Georgian building (formerly the Rampsbeck hotel), and a new contemporary wing, the result of a £3.5m investment which created an additional 21 rooms, including a number of family suites and dog-friendly rooms.

Funding has been provided by Actev, owned by Gavyn Davies and Baroness Sue Nye. Davies is a former chairman of the BBC and currently chairman of Fulcrum Asset Management, a founding partner of Anthos Capital and Active Private Equity, and a senior adviser to Prisma Capital; while Nye was an advisor to Gordon Brown when Prime Minister.

The venue also features formal gardens, fields, a private lakeshore, jetty and a vegetable patch, as well as a Swim Club, with a 20-metre lake-view swimming pool, outdoor hot tub, sauna, cardio room and three treatment rooms.

A number of paths and trails around Ullswater are also easily accessible from the hotel, and activities available include open-water swimming, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, cycling, walking, and skiing. For the less active, board games are available by the fireside.

The hotel has two restaurants: the Living Space, a bar leading onto a terrace serving coffee and cocktails alongside a casual lunch and dinner menu; and Rampsbeck restaurant, open for breakfast and dinner with a British menu focusing on Cumbrian produce.

Double rooms with breakfast ere available from £160 and family suites from £270
