Andina to return with new Shoreditch restaurant on 19 May

Peruvian restaurant Andina has confirmed that it will open its new flagship site in London’s Shoreditch on 19 May.

Located on Commercial Street, behind Spitalfields Market, the space will provide 80 covers in the ground-floor main restaurant and Pisco bar and 30 seats downstairs in Bar Mistura, a late-night cocktail bar and taqueria that will launch in June.

The new restaurant replaces Andina’s former Shoreditch restaurant on Redchurch Street, which closed last year after seven years as the landlord would not allow a renewal of the lease.

Head chef Bruno Moura has created a menu that reflects the restaurant’s Andean roots, including its collection of signature ceviches such as yana tuna ceviche (fresh tuna, rocoto chilli tiger’s milk, pickled pineapple, samphire radish and pickled onion) and don ceviche (fresh sea bass ceviche with avocado, amarillo chilli tiger’s milk, sweet potato and red onion).

There will also be a new selection of vegan dishes, such as barbecue pulled jackfruit with avocado smash, chipotle carrot cheese, spring onion, coriander, panca chilli and cassava shards. A three-course weekend brunch menu will cost £21 per head, with accompanying pisco sours for £5.

Raquel de Oliveira, Andina’s managing director, said that moving to Commercial Street marked “a fresh start for the team” after the heartbreak of having to leave the restaurant’s former home. “The space is much bigger, so we can now serve more of our loyal customers, many of whom have been dining with us from day one and have supported us throughout the pandemic, which is so humbling right now. And with the bigger kitchen space we will be able to expand our menu, as well as launching a brand-new Latin American cocktail bar and taqueria concept.”

Andina is part of the Ceviche group, which was founded in 2011 by Martin Morales and acquired in a management-led buy-out last year after administrators were appointed. In the pre-pack administration deal, Ceviche was sold to Carino, a company backed by Alex and Saiphin Moore, the founders of Rosa's Thai Cafe.

The deal saw the closure of three sites, but Andina as well as Ceviche and Casita Andina in Soho remained open, although Casita Andina has since closed permanently.
