The Association of Licensed Multiple Retailers (ALMR) has launched a manifesto to highlight the importance of the eating and drinking out sectors to national and local governments ahead of the election.
The ALMR launched its manifesto at its 2017 Spring Conference in London yesterday, providing policy makers with an outline of the contribution being made by the sector, and outlining key asks for further support of the pubs, restaurants and bars.
Those main asks include:
ALMR chief executive Kate Nicholls said: "The sudden announcement of a snap general election has given us an opportunity to engage with politicians who will be keen to court votes and we can ensure that promoting our sector is on the agenda."
"The sector plays a vitally important role both socially and economically and has been a fantastic provider of employment since the recession, creating 1 in 7 of all new jobs."
"Pubs and restaurants are resilient and vibrant, but they are facing legislative and financial roadblocks that are preventing them from achieving even more. They need support from politicians if they are to invest and grow.
"The ALMR Manifesto outlines the opportunities for policy-makers to support the sector and help support investment in businesses and communities in every region of the UK. This will be absolutely vital if we want to ensure the continued success of the sector and the revitalise the country's high streets. With the UK withdrawing from the European Union, it is essential that businesses are the best position to succeed. "
The ALMR's membership is made up of pub, club, bar and casual dining operators which together run 26,000 outlets and employ over 650,000 employees. Members include: JD Wetherspoon, Casual Dining Group and Carluccio's.
