Alex Lewis launches Pig 2 Pig for Hospitality Action

In June this year Alex Lewis will commence his Pig 2 Pig challenge to cover over 1000 miles by bike and boat.

Lewis, a quadruple amputee, as the result of toxic shock syndrome and Septicaemia in November 2013, will endeavour to ride his custom-made bike (made for him by Southampton University) from the Pig hotel in Harlyn Bay to Falmouth. Once in Cornwall he will transfer into a one-of-a-kind adapted Flying 15 rowing boat which has been designed and modified by Rannoch Adventure.

He will then row from Falmouth to Dover over the next 14 days, covering between 360 to 400 miles. Across the 14 day row he will be accompanied by celebrity chefs Adam Byatt and Phil Howard, Atlantic rowers Jordan Wylie, and parents, whose children’s lives were saved in The Murray Parish Trust IMRI Suite at Southampton Children's Hospital, as well as people who have personally and professionally been supported by Hospitality Action.

Lewis said: “My son Sam will join me on stages of the row, and he will be, by far the most important rower. I’ll also be supported by a crack team of non-rowers and my friends Chris Bagley, Jo Loveland and Sam Gundy. Celebrities such as Sarah Parish and James Murray and a few other surprise supporters will pitch in along the way."

Once in Dover, Lewis will return to the cycle, heading for The Pig at Bridge Place, Canterbury, before embarking on the return cycle journey back through the South of England, stopping at schools, clubs, colleges, universities, businesses, and all the Pig hotels in between. At each stop Lewis will talk about assistive technology, hospitality, adventure and endeavour.

His journey will end with a 600-mile cycle back to The Pig at Harlyn Bay, thereby completing the Pig 2 Pig CHallenge 2023.

He adds: “The challenge, which starts on the 1 June, will also raise funds for The Murray Parish Trust and we’d like to get as many people involved as we possibly can. Whether that’s supporting us on the route, by donating to the charities or through sponsorship. For the record - I can’t swim, which makes the challenge even more interesting!”
