Adam Bateman leaves culinary director role at Birmingham's Grand hotel

Adam Bateman has left his role as culinary director at the Grand hotel in Birmingham after nearly four years.

The chef joined the relaunch of the 142-year-old hotel during the pandemic in 2020 and oversaw the creation of the Isaac’s restaurant and Madeleine bar.

The Grand reopened for the first time in nearly 20 years in 2021.

Bateman had previously worked on the hotel project in his former role as group operations and development chef at the Principal hotel group when it was owned by Starwood Capital.

The chef has yet to confirm his next move but paid tribute to the Grand’s team in a post on Linkedin.

He wrote: “It’s time… Having started working on the Grand in 2016 to seeing her fully restored and open and now firmly established as Birmingham's favourite hotel, it’s been a privilege.

“But yes I’m moving on... a massive thank to all those amazing people that I’ve worked with along the way. We couldn’t have done it without you.”

Bateman’s tenure at the Grand saw him shortlisted for the Hotel Chef of the Year award at the 2022 Hotel Cateys.
