Aaron Kaupp appointed general manager of Jumeirah Carlton Tower

Aaron Kaupp has been appointed general manager of the Jumeirah Carlton Tower following its closure last month for a year-long renovation.

The five-red-AA-star, 216-bedroom Belgravia hotel closed on 1 September, with around 300 staff being made redundant. Previous general manager Luc Delafosse left the hotel in January and Ian Richardson, then general manager of its nearby sister property (the 88-bedroom Jumeirah Lowndes hotel) was appointed as interim general manager of the hotel, overseeing both properties. However, Richardson also recently left the company.

Kaupp’s role will encompass a regional vice-president role overseeing the group’s two London properties and the Jumeirah Frankfurt hotel in Germany. He has joined Jumeirah from Le Royal Monceau, Raffles Paris, where he has been general manager since 2016. Earlier in his career, Kaupp worked as general manager of the Belmond Villa San Michele in Florence and the Armani Hotel Milan.

Fergus Stewart was appointed regional vice-president of Europe last month and was also due to oversee the renovation of the Jumeirah Carlton Tower from London, however representatives of Jumeirah confirmed Stewart will be moving to Dubai in January to be regional vice president of the company's hotels in the Middle East, with Kaupp taking over his responsibilities in London and Frankfurt.
