£5m spa plans for Country Antrim hotel

The 33-bedroom Tullyglass House hotel in Ballymena, County Antrim, has applied for planning permission for an expansion, believed to be worth £5m, to turn the hotel into a luxury spa retreat.

The hotel has lodged an application to construct a four-storey annexe containing bedroom accommodation on the upper three floors as well as a spa, a tea and coffee lounge, a juice bar, and a gymnasium. The ground floor of the development would house a new hotel reception area, as well as hair and beauty facilities.

The hotel was originally known as Rainsford House and was built in 1880. It is owned by Kathleen and Chris McConville, who bought the venue in 1993, and managed by their son Gus.

In 2005, £5m was spent on a new conference and banqueting facility for the hotel, which can house more than 1,800 guests, and more than £2m was invested in renovating the hotel in 2015.
