£12m hotel plans for Blackpool Pleasure Beach revealed

Blackpool Pleasure Beach has applied to build a £12m 120-bedroom hotel and conference centre on the former Star pub site.

Following the demolition of the pub, a five-storey, four-star hotel and conference centre is planned for the site, while the adjacent Coasters Diner will be refurbished and relaunched as a 150-cover restaurant and bar within the Pleasure Park, which is one of the most visited tourist attractions in the UK.

Allison Pike architects is leading the development, which is between the resort's 157-bedroom Big Blue hotel, which opened in 2003, and the Park's Big One roller coaster. The hotel opening is expected to create 30 jobs.

The application to Blackpool Council described the project as potentially having "a huge improvement to the visual appearance" on a "prominent" corner site on the edge of the Pleasure Beach, that will "provide new employment and enhance the local economy".

The park was founded in 1896 and has been owned and operated by the Thompson family since its inception. The park is also due to launch the £16.25m new Icon roller coaster this year.
