100-bedroom hotel planned for Afan Valley Adventure Resort

A 100-bedroom hotel and 400 luxury lodges are planned as part of the multi-mullion pound, 480-acre Afan Valley Adventure Resort in Cymmer, Port Talbot in Wales.

The hotel and spa, as well as bars, restaurants and retail outlets, will surround a central plaza at the resort. The resort will also be home to the Bear Grylls Survival Academy, a series of challenges and endurance courses designed by the TV survival expert.

Afan Valley, being developed by Yorkshire-based Northern Powerhouse Developments (NPD), will also have three outdoor ski slopes, forest-based zip wires and tree-top activities, bike trails, an ‘Xtreme sport' centre, an aqua park and indoor trampolining.

Peter Moore, who launched and developed Center Parcs in the UK, was appointed the company's chairman of leisure earlier this year to oversee the creation of the resort. Construction work is set to begin next year.

NPD has a total portfolio of 12, with six hotels operational in Wales including the 40-bedroom Fourcroft hotel in Tenby, Pembrokeshire, which it bought in January for around £1m. The other six are closed while undergoing refurbishment. All are managed by Giant Hospitality, the operating division of NPD.

Gavin Woodhouse chairman of NPD, said: "The UK holiday market is ready for a new leisure concept and we believe Afan Valley Adventure Resort is coming at exactly the right time."
