William Curley wins Guinness World Record for chocolate egg

Renowned chocolatier William Curley has been awarded the Guinness World Record for the most expensive chocolate egg sold at an auction after his creation went under the hammer for £7,000.

Curley's 50kg egg was sold off as part of 30 golden eggs in the Fabergé Big Egg Hunt auction at the Royal Courts of Justice, London, to raise money for Action for Children and the Elephant Family. It fetched £7,000 and went to technology investor Cyrus Vandrevala and his wife, Priya, on behalf of the Vandrevala Foundation.

Commenting on the award, Curley said: "I am absolutely delighted to have been awarded a Guinness World Record - my team worked extremely hard on this project and I am thrilled that their work has been credited and that so much money will be donated to two amazing charities."

Curley's egg was created in three days by Curley, his wife and business partner Suzue and five other chocolatiers.

It was made from Amedei chocolate from the Chuao region of Venezuela and filled with a selection of chocolates including Japanese black vinegar, muscovado caramel, rosemary and olive oil, toasted sesame and juniper berry and casis.
