The General Tarlton will be the first in the new Jeopardy Hospitality Group
Tommy Banks is to open the General Tarleton as the first pub in the Jeopardy Hospitality group in late August, with Sam Orbaum taking the reins as general manager.
Situated in the village of Ferrensby, just outside Harrogate, the 18th-century coaching inn has been restored as an eight-bedroom pub by Banks alongside his partners in Jeopardy Hospitality, Matthew Lockwood, James Banks, and Neil Armstrong.
Orbaum has joined the pub from the Woodhead Restaurant Group, which operates London restaurants Portland, Clipstone, and the Quality Chop House. He will oversee front-of-house operations at the pub with rooms, as well as further Jeopardy Hospitality ventures.
He will be accompanied by Aled Williams, who has been appointed executive chef. Previously head of food and innovation at True Foods and head chef at Northcote, Williams will prepare pub classics such as steak and Guinness Pie with baked potato mash, Savoy cabbage and gravy, and the signature GT Burger, made with Dexter beef from the Banks family farm.
The General Tarleton will also feature a grill section offering the likes of Barnsley chop, beef fillet and pork cutlet and a Côte de Boeuf for two - all served with triple-cooked chips, a wedge salad and homemade accompaniments.
Wines have been chosen by James Banks, who has created a the 40-strong list, which includes 20 available by the glass. Pours will include Puligny-Montrachet from Jacques Carillon and Barbera from Vallana, alongside more offbeat picks such as a Moroccan Syrah and a Tannat from Uruguay.
Banks previously told The Caterer that Jeopardy Hospitality would focus on reviving pubs in communities that had lost their social hub.
Its name is a reference to the risk and danger associated with running hospitality businesses in the current climate.
