Tomahawk Steakhouse Group has announced the launch of its latest restaurant in York on Wednesday.
The group plans to launch a further restaurant in London later this year in the former site of Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen restaurant.
The new 180-cover site in York, which will feature a Champagne and oyster bar, a cocktail bar and steak restaurant across multiple levels, will be the eighth restaurant for the specialist steak group, which operates in the north-east of England in locations including Newcastle Quayside, Darlington and Beverley.
Speaking to The Caterer, director Howard Eggleston said the York outlet, situated in the heart of the city in a former Jamie Oliver site in historic Lendal Cellars, was a "really unique spot" and "had a bit of charisma about it".
He added: “We have been overwhelmed by the interest and sheer volume of bookings already made at Tomahawk by the lovely people of York."
In addition to the steakhouses, the group also operates a Brazilian Churrasco concept in Jesmond called Rio, and Tomahawk Chicken Houses in Jesmond and Yarm, which specialise in chicken rotisserie.
The company has also said it is in discussions with numerous landlords on “some fantastic venues across the UK” in preparation for a countrywide expansion. A spokesperson confirmed that the company was "in the process of signing the lease" for the former site of Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant, which closed last year after the collapse of the celebrity chef's restaurant portfolio.
