Over 400 restaurants sign up to 2021 StreetSmart charity campaign

Over 400 restaurants have signed up to take part in this year's StreetSmart restaurant fundraiser to tackle homelessness.

During November and December participating venues are adding a voluntary £1 to diners' bills, will all proceeds going to support charitable projects.

Those taking part include Barrafina in London, Adams in Birmingham, the Fat Duck in Bray, Bulrush in Bristol, and Moor Hall in Lancashire. StreetSmart are also seeking partners to join the campaign.

Mark Birchall, chef patron at Moor Hall, said: "Unfortunately, homelessness is a very real and growing issue all over the UK. The discretionary £1 donation is a small contribution which can make a huge difference. We are so pleased to be able to support this cause and the incredible work that StreetSmart does."

StreetSmart has raised over £10m since it was founded in 1998 and over 50 homelessness charities now benefit each year, with funds used to support services like the creation of beds, mental health advice, and training and job support.

Jackson Boxer, whose restaurants including London's Brunswick House, said: "Winter, as we gather in warm, comforting restaurants, should also be a time to think on how we can provide the most basic and essential human needs for every person: food, shelter, care. We are not proud that we have to support StreetSmart, but all the more reason to do so."
