Simon Rogan to leave Claridge's

Simon Rogan is to leave Claridge's after the chef and London hotel agreed to terminate their three-year partnership at the end of this month (April).

The chef launched Fera at Claridge's in May 2014 on a 10-year management agreement, with a five-year break clause.

Thomas Kochs, Claridge's general manager at the time, was instrumental in bringing Rogan into Claridge's, but left the hotel in November 2015.

At the time Kochs told The Caterer: "There is no sense in creating something that is popular for just two or three years. What we are doing is creating something that is substantial, which will potentially last for a lot longer than 10 years."

It has now been announced that the partnership will end on 30 April 2017. The restaurant will continue to be led by head chef and Rogan protégé Matt Starling, but with a new culinary vision.

Rogan said that his group Umbel would now focus on independent restaurants and was in talks with a number of locations with a view to opening a permanent site for his pop-up Roganic, which was open from 2011-2013 in London's Marylebone.

He added: "It's been a pleasure working with Claridge's for a successful and enjoyable three years, and as the time has come to move on, we do so with excitement for the future and grateful for our time at Fera."

Claridge's general manager Paul Jackson said: "We have had three very successful and creative years working with Simon and his talented team at Fera. We would particularly like to thank them for all their hard work and inspiration in keeping Claridge's at the forefront of the London culinary world. We wish Simon all the best for his exciting future plans."
