Simon Mahon has been appointed general manager of the Grand hotel in York, following the departure of Philip Bolson earlier this year.
Mahon joins the five-AA-star property from aparthotel company, Edyn, where he was director of operations for its SACO and Locke brands. Previous to this he was general manager of the Lancaster hotel in Bangkok.
Mahon said: “We look after people who are away from home and we make them happy. What could be better than that? I love working within this hospitality industry, and I’m excited to work alongside the team at the Grand to keep delivering excellence.
“We have so much available to make a visit special, from taking a class at our cookery school to enjoying a glass of fizz in one of our lounges. We’re looking forward to making the hotel, not just a place to sleep, but a hub of activity and a destination in itself."
The Grand opened as a hotel in 2010 and added 100 new rooms in March 2018 as part of a £15m expansion and refurbishment scheme, doubling the capacity for accommodation to 207 rooms.
The hotel reopened following the Covid-19 lockdown on 4 July and will look to increase visits from local guests looking for a luxurious staycation.
