Michelin awards 24 new Bib Gourmands

Michelin has announced 24 new Bib Gourmand restaurants in the 2017 Great Britain and Ireland Guide.

Those who have been recognised as offering "good quality, great value food" offering three courses for under £28 include Hoppers in London, critically acclaimed Bao in London's Soho, and El Gato Negro in Manchester which opened earlier this year.

Reacting on Twitter, Hoppers said it was "extremely happy", while El Gato Negro said it was "absolutely over the moon to have been awarded the only @michelinrestaurants #BibGourmand in Manchester for 2017".

Upstairs (At Trinity) in Clapham was also awarded a Bib Gourmand, capping a good day for chef Adam Byatt after Trinity was awarded a Michelin star.

One restaurant in Scotland, the Scran and Scallie in Edinburgh and the Wine & Brine in Moira, Northern Ireland were awarded Bib Gourmand status.

Meanwhile, among those that lost Bib Gourmand status were Russell Norman's Polpo restaurants in Soho, Covent Garden and Smithfield, Terroirs in London and Vennell's in Yorkshire.
