Michelin-starred chefs Chris and Jeff Galvin have launched the Galvin Outstanding Supplier Awards to honour top producers and suppliers to their restaurants.
The supplier to pick up the first of the monthly accolades is the Lake District Farmers, which supplies Galvin La Chapelle, Café A Vin and Bistrot de Luxe with its premium beef, lamb and venison. Runners up were Bibendum and Dutch Eel.
Around 200 suppliers and producers will be judged by 30 Galvin chefs from across the group each month on a set of criteria that includes quality of produce, any training that may accompany the produce and seasonality.
Commenting on the decision to launch the awards, Chris Galvin said: "After being fortunate enough to have received awards ourselves and knowing how proud it made the team feel, we want to reward our best suppliers with our own awards and will be voting for our supplier of the month, based on excellence of product, service and consistency."
A growing interest in and passion for the origin of the food from restaurant guests also was also a driving force in the introduction of the awards, the Galvins said.
Lake District Farmers will go through to be considered for the Galvin Supplier of the Year, which will be celebrated with a winners' lunch at a Galvin restaurant, hosted by Chris and Jeff Galvin.
Daniel Austin, managing director of Lake District Farmers, welcome the industry recognition: "To be acknowledged in this format as a supplier is extremely unique, and we feel honoured and humbled to receive the award for excellence.
"To be associated with the Galvin group is something we take great pride in, because they are exemplary in their contribution both inside and outside of the industry. We have an ethic at LDF, we win together, and we lose together - so I am extremely proud of them all."
