The Canteen is being led by ex-River Café chef Jessica Filbey.
The team behind the Pelican in London’s Notting Hill and the Hero in London’s Maida Vale has launched a new Italian-inspired restaurant, Canteen.
Canteen is located on the corner of London’s Golborne and Portobello Road and offers an informal menu featuring a selection of fresh pasta and daily-changing larger plates.
The kitchen is being led by ex-River Café chef Jessica Filbey, while Max Haughton leads on the day-to-day operations.
Dishes include tomato pappardelle with pecorino; cavolo nero risotto; mortadella pizzette, ricotta and lemon; and cherry frangipane tart.
Founder James Gummer said: “Golborne Road, and this building, are really close to our hearts. We’ll be opening a pub (the Fat Badger) upstairs soon, but the ground floor (once Pizza East) has always been loved, so we wanted to create a casual, affordable spot for the neighbourhood.
“We’ve known Jess for years, and her style of cooking is perfect for the space. We’re excited to support her in this new venture.”
Canteen offers walk-in only and is currently open for lunch between 12 and 4pm, Monday to Friday, with plans to open for dinner service soon.
James Gummer, Phil Winser and Richard Squire launched the Pelican gastropub in Notting Hill in 2022, which was followed by the opening of the much lauded Bull in Charlbury last year, as well as the Hero in Maida Vale earlier this year.
