Mario Flanagan has been appointed general manager of the Great Scotland Yard hotel in London's Westminster.
He replaces outgoing general manager Sholto Smith, who has been at the property since it opened in 2019.
Flanagan started his career in hospitality in the concierge to rooms division at the Table Bay hotel in South Africa.
In 2007, he joined the Hyatt Regency in Johannesburg as director of rooms. He was promoted to executive assistant manager a year later.
Following this role, he made the move to the UK, taking on the role of hotel manager at the Hyatt Regency London – The Churchill.
In 2013, he was promoted to general manager at Hyatt Regency Birmingham, where he led a £6m refurbishment of the hotel in 2014.
When he moved back to London in 2019, he was made general manager of Andaz London Liverpool Street, which recently appointed Miriam Varoli as general manager.
Flanagan said: “I am absolutely delighted to be joining the Great Scotland Yard Hotel and continue my professional journey within the Hyatt Group. With their reputation for unforgettable guest experiences and 5-star premium F&B offerings within an iconic building that’s rich in history, I look forward to leading a wonderful team in a fresh direction, whilst upholding the hotel’s five-star reputation.”
The 151-room Great Scotland Yard hotel is located in an 1820s Grade II listed building and is part of the Unbound Collection by Hyatt.
