The owners of Watergate Bay hotel near Newquay in Cornwall are opening a bar on the sea wall this summer.
Operated by the Ashworth family, Watchful Mary will be named after the ray of green light that, in certain conditions, can be glimpsed as the sun dips below the horizon.
The bar will be opening in a new two-floor building replacing the original Royal National Lifeboat Institution hut. The first floor will provide a larger, purpose-built permanent home for the lifeguard service and will also include a new area for the Watergate Bay Surf Lifesaving Club.
The second floor and terrace is being developed for the new bar, which will offer small plates, sangria, craft beers and classic cocktails with a twist.
The family own the 71-bedroom Watergate Bay hotel nearby and are looking to expand their Another Place hotel brand, the first of which was Another Place, The Lake, on the shores of Ullswater in the Lake District, which opened in 2017.
