Le Gavroche is to run a pop-up restaurant at the Wimbledon tennis championship this year in collaboration with Compass Group’s Keith Prowse division.
Chef Michel Roux will bring his two-Michelin-starred restaurant to the tournament, which runs from 1 – 14 July, within the huge, glass-fronted Lawn building.
Le Gavroche, which has been led by Roux since 1991, ran its final public service and closed on 13 January after 57 years of trading.
When he announced the closure last year, Roux said it would allow him to have a better work-life balance and take the restaurant on the road to different events.
Le Gavroche at the Lawn will serve the restaurant’s tasting menu paired with wines and feature the famous Le Gavroche cheese trolley.
Guests will also be able to enjoy a complimentary bar including premium spirits, bespoke cocktails, and vintage champagne.
The restaurant space will include original artwork and items from both Le Gavroche and the Wimbledon Lawn Tennis Museum’s archive. It will feature a private balcony, a glass wine wall and space for tables of two, four or six.
Andy Vinsen, managing director of Keith Prowse, said: “We are very excited to bring the 'Menu Exceptionnel’ of Le Gavroche to the iconic SW19 this summer, and for years to come.”
Roux previously ran a hospitality experience in the Lawn building with his daughter Emily and shared an outline of the huge operation on social media.
He said: “When we announced the closure of the restaurant, we said that the Le Gavroche name will live on, and this will be a Wimbledon experience to remember.
“It’s not just a chance to enjoy an iconic Le Gavroche menu, but also to be surrounded with some of the memorabilia that made Le Gavroche a welcoming and beautiful place to enjoy for so many years.”
Rare wine, works of art and silver from Le Gavroche are to be auctioned in an online sale handled by Christie's from 10 to 24 April.
Roux will also take the restaurant out to sea this year with four residencies on luxury cruise ship operator Cunard’s voyages in the Norwegian Fjords.
