It comes roughly two years after the chef-founder opened the original Thai-Chinese diner in London’s Chinatown
The chef-founder of Speedboat Bar in London’s Chinatown is set to launch a second iteration of the venue at the Electric in London’s Notting Hill.
Luke Farrell opened the original Speedboat Bar in 2023, which received rave reviews for its Thai-Chinese dishes, with food critic Jay Rayner praising its “completely irresistible style”.
The same concept is set to be rolled out at the Electric on Portobello Road next month.
The second Speedboat Bar will be run in partnership with Soho House Group, which operates Electric Diner, and JKS Restaurants, a close collaborator with Farrell since 2021.
Together they launched their first pop-up, Viet Populaire, which was followed by Plaza Khao Gaeng and Bebek!Bebek! at Arcade Food Hall in 2022.
Speedboat Bar Notting Hill will serve curries, noodles, stir fries and salads paired to whisky sodas, Singha beer towers and cocktails.
Farrell said: “A Thai speedboat racing team isn’t driven by one person. It’s the whole crew – tight, fearless and tuned to perfection. From the meticulous mechanics squeezing every last drop from their engines, to the traditional boat builders, the gleaming livery and bold paintwork down the sides – these machines are a craft. A melding of classic and contemporary, and quintessentially Thai. That spirit defines Speedboat Bar.”
Speedboat Bar will open between 12pm and 11pm Sunday to Thursday and 12pm to 1am Friday and Saturday.
