Liz Smith-Mills awarded top industry accolade

Hotel and housekeeping consultant Liz Smith-Mills has been awarded the highest accolade by the Council of the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc).

The Sholom Gordon Award recognises exemplary contribution to the work of the Institute and to the cleaning industry. Smith-Mills was presented with her award at a black tie event last night at Whittlebury Hall hotel in Towcester, Northamptonshire.

Currently vice chair of the Yorkshire branch of the Institute of Hospitality and a hotel consultant with Decotel, as well as a part-time inspector for AA hotel services, Smith-Mills' hospitality career spans 35 years across four- and five-star hotels. Specialising in housekeeping, training, inspections and new openings, she assisted with the opening of properties including Sandy Lane Barbados, the Grand hotel in Dubai, and Coworth Park in Ascot, Berkshire.

A winner of the Housekeeper of the Year accolade at the Catey Award in 1991, Smith-Mills was formerly an executive housekeeper with Forte Hotels, a housekeeping manager with De Vere, and a hotel consultant with Diversey (now Sealed Air).
