Le Beaujolais Bistro in Bath to close after 40 years

Jean Pierre and Carey Auge are set to close Le Beaujolais Bistro and Bar later this month, after 40 years in the restaurant trade.

"We would like to thank all our loyal patrons for their custom and unwavering support over the years. We’ve loved every minute of it and are lucky enough to count many of our customers as good friends."

The restaurant opened in 1972 offering the people of Bath a taste of classic French cuisine.

It has won many awards over the years and has been a breeding ground for chefs, many who have gone on to open their own businesses.

The restaurant reopened five years ago after it was destroyed by fire, with a new layout.

Jean Pierre added: “Beaujolais was a real social hub in Bath. We have served three generations of many families and have seen countless couples getting engaged and then married in the restaurant and now their children are doing the same. 40 years was a good mile stone to hit and we achieved everything we set out to do, so a huge heart-felt thank you to all our loyal customers for being part of that.”

It is not yet known what will become of the site once the business closes on 19 January.
