Karen Weisheit, hotel manager at Grove of Narberth in Pembrokeshire, was named GM of the Future by the Master Innholders at the Independent Hotel Show Awards 2022 on 4 October.
Weisheit, who has worked in hospitality for 14 years, will be enrolled on the £12,000 Talent Development Programme at Cranfield University in 2023.
She will receive funding for the course from a bequest to the Master Innholders Charitable Trust by a former Master Innholder, the late Neil Bannister.
Weisheit said: “I’m incredibly proud of what I’ve achieved, it’s overwhelming. I did not expect it and to be nominated against such strong industry candidates is humbling. It’s the people around me that make me what I am, for which I’m truly grateful.”
The GM of the Future award was presented by Dan Rose-Bristow, who has been chair of the Master Innholders since September.
Rose-Bristow said: “The Master Innholders developed the GM of the Future Award to honour up-and-coming hotel leaders and to recognise and celebrate those who go above and beyond to show their dedication to becoming future leaders.
The judges also selected two individuals for the ‘Highly Commended’ award, which went to Beth Bryant, hotel manager at the Ickworth Hotel in Suffolk, and Alexander Wilson, front office manager at the Goring in London.
