The 38-bedroom property has been acquired by UK-based hospitality group Eight Continents Hotels & Resorts
La Barbarie hotel in Guernsey has changed hands for the first time in nearly 40 years as part of a £6.25m deal.
The St Martin property, previously under private family ownership, has been acquired by Eight Continents Hotels & Resorts, a UK-based hospitality group with a strong presence across India and Africa, operating 11 brands across midscale and luxury.
La Barbarie is a 16th-century priory that has since been converted into a 38-bedroom hotel featuring ensuite rooms, a heated swimming pool and a 74-cover restaurant with an AA rosette.
Haninder Sachdeva, founder and chief executive of Eight Continents Hotels & Resorts, said: “Guernsey is an exceptional destination, and La Barbarie is a hotel with a remarkable legacy. We are excited to continue the excellent work of the previous owners, build on its success and enhance the experience for both leisure and corporate guests.”
Julian Troup, head of UK hotels agency at Colliers, which handled the sale, added: “This sale highlights the enduring appeal of Guernsey as a destination for investors and operators alike. La Barbarie is a superb example of a hotel that combines strong trading performance with significant growth potential, and we are proud to have facilitated the transaction. The sale further evidences that quality instructions continue to drive the hotel transactional market.”
Local Guernsey-based joint agents were Swoffers, while Randell & Loveridge Advocates acted for the vendors and Ogier acted for the buyers.
