The Queen awards catering butcher Aubrey Allen a Royal Warrant

Family-run catering butcher Aubrey Allen has been awarded a Royal Warrant by the Queen.

The Coventry-based business has received the official Royal Appointment as suppliers of meat, poultry and game to the Royal Household at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Sandringham and Her Majesty's other private residences.

Aubrey Allen has supplied the Royal Household since 2007 and the Royal Warrant has taken effect from 1 January for five years. The appointment follows the Goring Hotel and contract caterer CH&Co, which have also been awarded Royal Warrants this year.

Russell Allen, managing director of Aubrey Allen, said: "Being granted the Royal Warrant in the year that marks the 60th anniversary of HM The Queen's Coronation is particularly special, with the opportunity to be involved in the Coronation Festival at Buckingham Palace from 11 to 14 July 2013. We're absolutely thrilled and delighted to receive this recognition at the start of such a special year, which also marks our 80th birthday celebrations for the business that my grandfather, Aubrey Allen, founded in 1933."

Royal Warrants are a mark of recognition to individuals or companies who have regularly supplied goods or services to certain members of the Royal Family for a minimum of five years.

Separately, Martin Crombie and Michael Perkins from Aubrey Allen represented England in the European Butchery Trophy, held in Lyon, France, last week, where they were placed fourth.

The two butchers, who represented England for the first time in the competition, finished behind third-placed Switzerland and two pairs from France. Their prize money was €600.

Allen said: "It was a terrific honour to represent England and both Martin and Michael performed brilliantly under enormous pressure. It is a fantastic achievement to come fourth and is a real fillip to our customers and everyone who works at our Leamington Spa shop and Coventry operation to know that we are one of the best butchers in Europe."
