One of the UK's leading chefs has stormed into Caterer and Hotelkeeper‘s record books to become the third winner of three Cateys in their career.
Gordon Ramsay‘s hat trick was completed on Tuesday evening at a spectacular Catey awards ceremony, when he was presented with the coveted Restaurateur of the Year -Independent award.
The award recognised his latest opening, Maze, in London's Marriott Grosvenor Square hotel, which achieved a Michelin star within eight months. He was also praised for taking his group global with his Japanese venture and his new restaurant in New York, opening later this year.
He told Caterer: "The Cateys are without doubt the hospitality industry's equivalent of the Oscars, so it's a huge privilege to be receiving this accolade.
"Of course, none of this would be possible were it not for the fantastic team that supports me. I am absolutely thrilled."
Ramsay, who has previously received the Chef and Newcomer of the Year awards in 2000 and 1995 respectively, joins chef Michel Roux and Andrew and Jacquie Pern of the Star Inn in Helmsley, north Yorkshire, with three Cateys.
Other winners on the star-studded night at London's Grosvenor House hotel were Mark McQuater, chief executive of Barracuda Group, who received the Pub and Bar Industry award for his innovative approach to developing the group.
Robert Cook, chief executive of Malmaison and Hotel du Vin hotels was named Manager of the Year for his development of both brands, his management style, passion and hands-on approach.
Newcomer of the Year went to the Galvin brothers for their Galvin Bistrot de Luxe on London's Baker Street, after it wowed London's foodie crowd when it opened last year.
Lord Sebastian Coe became the first person outside the hospitality industry to receive a Catey when he was awarded the Special Award for masterminding London's successful bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games.
