The boutique hotel is building a new events space and extending the opening hours of its restaurant due to guest demand.
Boutique hotel Downham Hall in Essex has secured planning permission to build a new events space for up 150 guests.
Owners Andrew and Christine Metcalfe (pictured below) have been given the green light to replace the current marquee structure used for its weddings and events arms.
It comes as the hotel confirms it has received two AA awards: a five-star accommodation award in the restaurant with rooms category and two AA rosettes for its North Wing restaurant.
Following the awards and growing guest demand, the Metcalfes have recruited Ben Hyde as operations manager for the North Wing. He joins from Elvedon Estates and will work alongside Christina.
The restaurant, which serves classic British cuisine, will also extend its opening hours to open seven days a week from September.
Christina said: “Recent years have been a challenge for us and the entire hospitality industry. However, we are now looking to the future and excited to turn our development plans into reality and extend our offer to existing and new guests.”
Downham Hall opened in 2018 following the conversion of a large residential property into a restaurant with rooms and events space.
Co-owner Andrew, who has worked for Opentable, Ve Interactive and Guestline, said: “We feel extremely fortunate that we have been able to invest in growing our team and F&B offer in recent times to achieve not one but two accolades from the AA.
“The new events space is the next exciting stage of our development. Since we first purchased Downhall Hall in 2017 we have always believed in its potential and had ambitious plans to grow its offering.
“We are now looking forward to getting started and welcoming more guests and more awards in the future.”
Work on the new events space will begin later this year.
